Quenting

Heat Treatment consisting of the rapid cooling of steel from a temperature above its the critical temperature (around 50 °C above the A1 line for hypereutectoid steels) in oil, water, salt or even air.

The aim of quenching is to obtain a martensitic structure, which, from the point of view of mechanical properties, is to increase the tensile strength limit of steel and also its hardness.
